About Rachel
In our therapeutic relationship you will find me to be warm, genuine, affirming, and direct. That means I have your back 100% and I’m going to approach difficult conversations and problematic patterns out loud and with hopes that we can find peace and clarity through the challenges. I don’t believe any one approach has all the answers to quickly fix one’s problems, so I’ll often blend methods from traditional frameworks and incorporate existential, spiritual, and ancestral wisdom. I’m extensively trained in numerous modalities of care and specialize primarily in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) , Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) .
Feeling respected and free from judgment are sensations you should expect from our sessions. It’s my job to help you build skills and insights, learn to listen to your inner wisdom, and awaken your self esteem, hope, and resilience so that one day you can approach future challenges independently and with confidence.
Professional Background
I came to the profession of psychotherapy after over a decade working as an advocate and case manager. I began my social services career in 1999 as an advocate for children with disabilities at a national nonprofit disability rights organization.
I spent many years working at syringe exchange programs for HIV/AIDS prevention as a volunteer, case manager, and then program manager in San Francisco and Philadelphia, and launched an opioid overdose prevention non-profit with my colleague and best friend in 2005.
When I entered MSW school in Portland in 2007, I was driven to serve combat veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan and I worked at VA in this capacity for 14 years with additional speciality in substance use treatment, veterans post-incarceration, and chronic conditions.
I entered private practice with the goal to grow and share the wisdom and perspective I’ve gained from years of experience. I’m confident that together we can deepen your inner wisdom and skillfulness for navigating the experience of life.
Personal Values Statement
I’m committed to human rights, animal rights, protecting the planet and live my life with these values at the forefront. I am a psychotherapist in this current chapter of my career because I believe it’s where I can do the most good at this moment in time.
When trying to summarize my values I offer this quote by the late great activist Eugene V. Debs :
“ …years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free."
I believe we are all connected, and if we can spark hope and resilience in your heart, mind, and spirit, you just may pass it on and together we can be a catalyst for more positive energy in the world.

Client Comments
Rachel listened in a non judgmental and supportive way about my internal struggles in accepting my child’s sexuality.
She helped me accept my child for the amazing beautiful person that she is. And through her support, our relationship has never been better.
Rachel encouraged me to be my own best friend and make choices in my life that were actually healthy for my mental health. She encouraged me to put my needs first in order to heal and grow.
Rachel helped me see the parts of my marriage that were working and the parts that were not working. Rachel helped me to accept my reality as it really was. She helped me see myself and love myself unconditionally.
She encouraged me to listen to that still small voice inside to choose me.
Rachel helped me heal.
Client S
I was a total therapy skeptic but I can tell you that after two sessions with Rachel I knew I had found someone I could relate to and right away I felt that I could confide in and trust. Man was I right! With her help and unbelievable insight and knowledge I can honestly say that she saved my life and if not for her at best I would still be stuck in the lost, depressed, sad world that I went to her for.
Client L
Rachel saved my life! Once I was willing to get out of my own way, listen to her, and do whatever she told me to do I was able to get my life back on track. Luckily for me she was patient enough to wait for me to be ready to change. Our relationship is one that I will cherish forever. I have been clean and sober for over 7 years and my life has improved drastically. Much of my success in recovery can be contributed to my 2-3 years of counseling with Rachel. I recommend Rachel for anyone ready and willing to make a change for the better in their life.
